Glossier Round 2

This week I'm back at it with some more new (to me) stuff from Glossier! I was really happy with what I bought in my first order, which you can see in a post from a few weeks ago. There was still quite a bit that I wanted to try out since it went so well the first time around, so here we are. If you are curious about Glossier and want 10% off your first order, head to the website through this link: http://bff.glossier.com/gMZcM. Please be aware that I will receive compensation and there are many other codes out there if you choose to use another. To see what I thought about my latest purchase, keep on reading!

This time I decided to order their Phase 1 Set and their Generation G lipstick in the color Cake. It was also a great time to order because I received a sample of Glossier's new fragrance, called You.

Glossier Phase 1 Set- $40

Something that I knew I wanted since my first order was the Glossier Phase 1 Set. It comes with their Milky Jelly Cleanser, Priming Moisturizer, and a Balm Dotcom scent of your choice, as well as a pink bag to store it all in.

I had previously ordered the Balm Dotcom in Coconut and LOVED it, so I knew I'd need a backup. If you haven't tried it or read my previous thoughts on it, it's just a super nice lip balm that is seriously hydrating. You get a lot of bang for your buck since the tube holds a lot of product as well. Throw in the fact that it smells like coconuts and there's no reason I wouldn't love it.

With my first order I had also received a sample of the Milky Jelly Cleanser and was super impressed with the uniqueness of the formula. It feels very hydrating, and it actually billed as a "conditioning face wash." I would say this is true. It feels so creamy while you're applying it but also leaves your face feeling clean. It has a faint rose scent, which I like. The packaging is also really nice, it's minimal and the pump dispenses the perfect amount of product. I will say that the claim that it melts away makeup is a little bit of a reach for me. I still do a double cleanse when I use it to make sure I get everything off, and if I'm wearing eyeliner I really have to rub it into my eyes to make sure I get everything. It does work though, it just takes a bit of effort. I personally find this to be true with most cleansers that I use when I'm wearing eyeliner though so it doesn't bother me.

The third item in the set I had never tried before, their Priming Moisturizer. I wasn't sure how I'd like this one but when purchased with the set it wasn't that much more, so I thought what the Hell. Glossier has two moisturizers: this one and their Priming Moisturizer Rich. Since I have dry skin, I would probably be more well suited to the Rich version, but thought this could be good to use in the morning before applying makeup. For science, I did try to use it alone at night and it definitely wasn't moisturizing enough for me personally. They say it is buildable so maybe if I applied more, but I thought that would be wasteful. Instead, I've been using it in the morning. If I'm not wearing makeup I'll put on a bit of this with a heavier moisturizer on top. If I am wearing makeup, I'll put this on following by sunscreen and my makeup base. You may be wondering "hey, if you know you have dry-ass skin, why would you order something you didn't think could do the job as well as something else?" Well, it's because they also claim that this helps reduce redness and get rid of texture on the skin. I haven't noticed any real texture differences but I could buy the redness reduction thing. My cheeks are still a bit red when I use it, but I think I see a noticeable difference. Can others? Who knows.

Glossier Generation G lipstick in Cake- $18

Interestingly enough, I never had ANY interest in trying the Generation G lipsticks. SHEER lipstick?! Why? Give me pigmentation or give me death! But within the past few months, I had seen a lot of YouTubers wearing them and they looked fantastic on camera. One that really caught my eye was in the color Cake, a nude brown-y color. On the website it looked so sheer but every time I saw someone wearing it it looked stunning!

Glossier Generation G lipstick in Cake, swatched

When I first tried it on, it behaved as I initially assumed it would: I could hardly see it. I learned that I could not wear the normal amount of lip balm that I usually do under my lip products if I wanted it to work for me. So I dabbed away mostly everything that was on my lips and went in for round 2. And I'll tell ya, it took a lot of swiping. But once I built it up to the color I wanted it was GORGEOUS. The PERFECT nude, and in a beautiful velvety matte finish. But then comes the bad news- it makes my lips so feel so dry, since I can't keep balm on under it. I am so torn on this one! I have to put a ton on to get it to work and it doesn't feel good on my lips. But it is so perfect color-wise. And I know, the whole purpose of the Generation G lipsticks is that they are sheer colors to swipe on and go. But now that I've seen what it can be I'm yearning for a similar color in another formula- please let me know if you have any suggestions! I think another color in this formula would work a lot better for me- maybe the red color Zip or the berry color Jam. I'll probably try one of those in the future.

Glossier You perfume- $60 for 1.7oz

One of the reasons that I ordered when I did was all of the hype surrounding Glossier's first fragrance, You. On the website, they describe it as Creamy, sparkling, clean, warm. I would say I agree. I am by no means a scent expert, but this reminds me a bit of Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt, but with a bit of freshness added to it. I absolutely love that Jo Malone scent, but have never committed to a full size because I find that it doesn't last long on the skin. I would say that this Glossier scent lasts a bit longer, but I still can't really smell it on myself within a few hours. It still smells really good and is a bit different from other scents I own, so I just may end up purchasing it. I have to give it to this brand, I was itching to try this once I saw it was coming out. It totally fits with their effortless, cool girl vibe. I think they nailed it with the scent.

While not everything was a home run for me with this order, I'm still happy with everything and have yet to receive a bad product! If I had to chose my top picks from Glossier, I would recommend: the Milky Jelly Cleanser, Balm Dotcom, and the Haloscope highlighter. If you weren't aware, each order comes with one of their iconic pink bags as well as a fun sheet of stickers. I think the products are all decently priced and perform as described. Plus I love it when a badass woman like brand creator Emily Weiss turns a passion like makeup and skincare into a career. I'm excited to see what comes next!
