Skincare is something that I make a priority on a daily basis. I want to make sure that I am taking care of my face now so that I hopefully have less issues with my skin when I am older. By now I pretty much have a crew of holy grail skin products that work well for me, but I felt like I was missing a few things.

This is in large part to the fact that I'm almost out of a few of my products from the Ordinary and have no interest in replacing them after reading about how the founder has been conducting himself lately- including suggesting a skin lightening product to a person of color in retaliation to an innocent comment that she made on one of his posts. Yikes. No matter how well priced their products are, I can't get behind what is going on with that company right now.

Anyway, the two major components that I needed to replace were retinol (haven't really looked yet,  any recs?) and vitamin C. After watching one of Samantha Ravndahl's recent videos where she talked up the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, I decided that would be the one I was going to try.

I was originally planning on getting the .5oz bottle since it is a better value than the larger sizes, coming in at $15. The 1oz bottle is $48, and the 1.7oz bottle is $72. I picked it up during the Spring VIB sale and as luck would have it, the Sephora that I was shopping at was out of the .5oz bottles. Being the impatient human that I am, I snagged the 1oz bottle instead, knowing that I was getting ripped off- but at a 15% discount at least.

The first thing that I loved about this product was the packaging. It comes in a a heavy, glass, pump bottle that is a beautiful frosted orange color. I was also so happy with the fact that you have to twist the pump to disperse product. Vitamin C loses potency and effectiveness when exposed to light and air, so the packaging is very thoughtful.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum pumped onto the hand

Once I pumped a bit onto my hand, I was greeted by the smell of juicy oranges. I patted the serum onto my face and was surprised at how it felt. It glided onto my skin effortlessly, and added a bit of light hydration back into my skin. It felt super refreshing.

You may be wondering, what does vitamin C do for my skin? Do I need it? Well we don't really need anything, but this is a good extra step to throw into your routine if you want to kick it up a notch from just using a cleanser and moisturizing. I asked my husband what he likes about using vitamin C and he said "uhm, it kind of makes my skin, like, extra dewy?" If that's not a ringing endorsement I don't know what is.

In reality, vitamin C serves a few different purposes when applied topically. It evens out the skin, adds glow, and promote firmness. I can't really tell a difference in firmness, but for me personally this product really delivers with evening out my skin tone, and with giving my skin a lovely glow. My cheeks are usually pretty red but I've got my routine down to the point where I think I've pretty much minimized it as much as I can. Maybe one day I'll try something that makes me feel differently, but I'm happy with it. The biggest difference that this product is noticeably changing for me is the GLOW that my skin has. Sometimes when I am not wearing makeup I will look in the mirror and think holy shit, it looks like I have highlighter on, but it's just my skin! This has been by far the most impressive result for me. I feel like at the age I am at, certain products such as vitamin C and retinol are more for prevention than visible results, so I was really surprised that this product made such a noticeable difference for me.

This is definitely going to be a repurchase for me once I run out. The Ordinary vitamin C is the only other one that I've tried so far, but this one blew it out of the water. I definitely plan on trying some other things from Ole Henriksen after having such a great experience with this one!
