Hello!

This is my corner of the internet to talk about stuff that I'm digging- beauty, lifestyle, clothes, food. Whatever I'm feeling at the moment. I rely heavily on reviews when choosing products and wanted to put my thoughts out there for others to check out.

Starting a blog is something that I've wanted to do for a long time but just haven't. I finally decided that there is no time like the present and to go for it. There are so many great influencers out there right now on YouTube and in the blogosphere that I admire and trust when researching products, and I want to be able to do the same for others.

I got into makeup and skincare a few years ago and since then it has become a passion of mine. I tend to purchase mid to high end brands (think MAC, NARS, Charlotte Tilbury, Chanel, etc) because a) I can typically test things out at Nordstrom, Sephora, or Ulta and b) the quality tends to be better than the cheaper drugstore products I have purchased and been disappointed in. Of course, the latter is not always true, especially when it comes to mascara- give me some Maybelline and I'm good to go.

I just want to give you guys an idea of the kind of products that I will be discussing so that you know what to expect. Makeup and skincare is a hobby for me, and I don't want to feel responsible for making people feel like they have to have the newest, most expensive products. I think that is kind of the danger of this kind of thing where people feel pressure to buy everything that is being put in front of them. I really do think you can get by with a set of holy grail staples in each category, and that is why I want to review what I have found works for me to hopefully make decisions easier for others.

A little bit about my skin: I have dry skin that is typically around NC20 and a bit on the olive toned side. My biggest skin concerns besides dryness are redness and sebaceous filaments.

I'll be posting here and on Instagram so feel free to follow me both places to see what I'm up to. Welcome, and I hope to see you around!

  1. Great blog Kayla. After three organic, dermabrasion facials in the last three months which made the skin on my face feel awesome... I wouldn't mind knowing more about what to use on my face to keep it hydrated, less wrinkles & what to use to get rid of brown spots on my face from being out in the sun. I think my skin is a "normal" type. I don't use makeup on my face because I can't find a type or color that works. I've tried lots of brands & they're too orange, pink or yellow. When I go out & about I use brown eyeliner with bluish eyeliner on top & black Maybelline mascara. I also use Olay cleanser & moisturizer morning & night.

    1. I think that a good moisturizer that works for you is one of the most important things to start with. I used to use Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel. I liked it a lot but it wasn't quite enough moisture for my dry skin. Since you said your skin is normal it might be a good one to try out. I've also heard great things about Cerave and Cetaphil moisturizers which are a bit cheaper, but haven't tried them yet. You can find all of these products at Ulta. As far as anti-aging, sunscreen is very important! Make sure you're wearing it daily, even when the sun isn't out you're still exposed. I think that a retinol product such as The Ordinary's Advanced Retinoid 2% would work well to address your concerns about wrinkles. Since you said that you have trouble finding a good foundation match you may be better off trying something less forgiving like a CC or BB cream. They tend to even out the skin tone and give a nice natural finish. Bare Minerals and Clinique have some nice options.

  2. Thank you Kayla for all the information you gave me. I'm going to check out MAC at Macy's after payday & see what they have to say about my skin color & get some samples & go to Sephora. I'm excited about seeing what I can do to make everything look better.
