Glossier Solution Review

Skincare is so personal. Some products can be holy grail status for one person, while being a complete disaster for another. When Glossier launched Solution, my first reaction was excitement- it seemed perfect! I had been wanting to experiment with different chemical exfoliants and was intrigued by the different mix of acids that Solution contained. Then the reviews starting coming out, and they were super divided. I almost ended up not ordering it, but decided to stick with it and see how it worked on my skin. Keep reading to see if this was a hit or a miss for me.

Glossier Solution- $24 for 4.4oz

The Product

One of the reasons that I still decided to purchase it even though it had some brutal reviews was the price point. For $24 you get a really decent amount of product. Also, some of those before and after photos on the Glossier website are pretty impressive for those who used the product for a few weeks. Thankfully I don't get acne often, so I was looking to this product to help improve the texture of my skin and even my skin tone out. It contains AHAs (lactic and glycolic acid), BHA (salicylic acid), and PHA (gluconolactone), as well as aloe, glycerin, and niacinamide. I'm by no means an ingredient expert, but am familiar with most of these ingredients and their purposes, and knew that it sounded like it could really work well for my skin.

A frequent qualm that people seemed to have with this product was that it was too harsh for their skin. My skin is pretty easy going and not super sensitive, so if your skin is pickier you may want to proceed with caution.

When I first applied it to my skin, I braced myself for stinging and redness. Fortunately, I didn't experience either. My first impression was that my moisturizer layered on top of it really well, but other than that there were no immediate results. After a few days of use, I started to notice an improvement in the texture that runs along my jawline. After about a week I noticed an improvement in how even my skin tone was. Finally after a few weeks, I noticed an improvement in my pores and blackheads. This lines up pretty well with the claims made on Glossier's website about the results that you are supposed to see.

How I Use It

Since I don't want to overdo it and freak my skin out, I keep it super simple while using this. After cleansing I apply Solution, wait a few minutes and then apply moisturizer and eye cream. If I'm feeling especially dry I'll add a hydrating oil like the Herbivore Lapis Facial Oil.

When you are using chemical exfoliants like this it is extremely important to remember to wear sunscreen EVERY DAY regardless of weather! As long as you are protecting your face (which you should already be doing), there is no need to worry. Just don't think you can go without sun protection, your skin will be more vulnerable to sun damage if you ignore this.

Glossier Cotton Rounds- $4 for 60

The Cotton Rounds

Since I was already picking up Solution, I figured I may as well get the Cotton Rounds too. The website describes them as chemical, fragrance, and lint free. They are pretty soft and distribute the product nicely over your face. I'd still like to try some other options, like the Shiseido Cotton Facial Sheets, to see how they hold up, but I'll continue to use these in the mean time. For $4 you get 60, which I don't think is too crazy. The quality is nice and they have the cute little G embossed on them, which is totally unnecessary but a nice touch.

They are much better than the drugstore options that I've tried- those have always left little balls of lint on my face and I don't get that with these. If you have any suggestions on something I should try, holla!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think that this is a solid product. The results that I saw were nowhere near as dramatic as the before and after photos on the brand's website, but many of those folks featured had a good amount of acne or other blemishes. It would be unrealistic of me to expect my already clear skin to be completely transformed.

While I didn't experience anything extraordinary, I think that the product lived up to the claims presented on the website. For my skin, it was gentle and balanced. It did improve texture and tone. It did reduce pore size and blackheads. I'd happily buy this again. I do feel like I've used a lot of product in a short amount of time, and that's my only real complaint. I've had it for a month and used half the bottle, which is quick for me. I've been using it every single day with only a few days missed though, so I get why I'm going through it so fast. That is the suggested use, every day. I'll probably chill on the constant use and tone it down to about 4 days a week to see if the results are maintained.

If you want to see what the hype is about for yourself, I have a code for 10% off your first Glossier purchase. Please be aware that I do receive compensation for your order if you choose to use this code.

In the end, I'm glad that I tried the product out even though so many people did not care for it. Sometimes it pays to take a risk! At the end of the day, you know your skin the best, so just try to be smart about what you choose to put on it.
