Boy Smells Candle Review

I, like many others, am a freak for candles. I love smelling things and I prefer to be constantly stimulated by scent. The first thing that I do when I get home is light a candle. I came across Boy Smells' incredible Instagrammable candles a while back and had to place an order to see what they were like in the flesh... err, wax.

Boy Smells Kush Candle

The first candle that I purchased from the brand was in the scent Kush. I quite enjoy the scent of cannabis, and since I can't partake due to my job I thought this candle would be perfect. I have to admit that when I received it, the smell was different from what I imagined. It also has notes of suede and tulip, and this is what I personally pick up on most. It's definitely still a pleasant smell, just not what I envisioned it would be. Ordering candles online without smelling first is a risky game and one that I willingly played. As you can see, one con to these candles is that the packaging gets dirty very easily and I have found it hard to clean. I haven't tried cleaning with rubbing alcohol yet, but I plan on trying that next because I'm too anal for smudges like this. I wouldn't order this scent again, but it's fine for a soft bedroom scent until I burn it down.

Boy Smells Candle in Cedar Stack

As the brand has grown, I've had the chance to check out their candles in various stores in Portland and Seattle that stock them and found that I really enjoyed Cedar Stack. It's obviously a woody scent, but also has fresh notes to it that lighten it up a bit. Another thing that I love about these candles is that the wax burns down so evenly. Currently, these candles sell for about $29. To put this in perspective, I had burned a Diptyque candle that cost $60 (it was a Christmas present, leave me alone), and experienced really annoying tunneling that I had to fix using tin foil. Very frustrating. I will say that these candles don't have as much of a throw as other brands that I've tried, but it's enough for the small sized rooms that I have burned them in.

Boy Smells LES Candle

When I saw the limited edition packaging on this candle in the scent LES, I was so smitten by it. It's a gorgeous matte pink with a reflective pink label. The scents Kush and Petal are also currently being sold in this packaging, but the scent description for LES intrigued me. This was another that I hadn't smelled in person before, so I had to cross my fingers and hope for the best. Since the packaging is something that I can easily reuse for something such as makeup brushes though, I wasn't going to be heartbroken if it wasn't my favorite. When it arrived, I couldn't have been happier. The notes in this one are black currant, peach blossom, jasmine rice, cardamom and white cedar. This may sound weird, but to me it smells like a less-sweet version of Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Lotion. It smells fruity but... smooth? I don't know, I suck at describing scents (so let's write a blog post on candles), but it's great. If you're into fruity scents I think this is a safe choice. This scent is also available in the regular black packaging, so if the pink is sold out or you're just not into it you can still get your hands on it. I have to say that I was also BLOWN AWAY by the speed at which this candle shipped. I ordered it on a Friday morning and it was at my doorstep by Monday. And that was just basic free shipping! For this reason alone, I'll probably continue to order directly from their site rather than retailers that carry them such as Nordstrom.

Boy Smells Candles

Do you guys ever order candles online without smelling first? And do they EVER smell like you think they will when they arrive? I'm pretty open minded about fragrance but for those with a pickier nose I could see this being impossible. I definitely see myself repurchasing Cedar Stack and LES, and overall am very happy with Boy Smells' service and quality. I have a few other go to brands that have a stronger throw, but these work well in a smaller space such as a bedroom.
