I have been a Glossier fangirl for a few years now. Every time a new storefront or pop-up has opened, I've had to face the disappointment that they would be located nowhere near me. That all changed a few weeks ago when they announced they would be coming to Seattle this summer.
Glossier Seattle Display Window |
When it comes to Glossier, there is no detail too small. Each store has had a separate theme, and Seattle was no different. The theme in this case was luscious greenery and wildflowers. While Seattle is a large city filled with concrete and high-rises, there is a lot of natural beauty to withhold in the Pacific Northwest, so I found this theme to be fitting. Approaching the building, you are greeted with a shiny white brick wrapping, which lends a gorgeous contrast to the landscape found within its windows. I drove up from Portland with my pal Amber Sargent specifically to experience this pop-up, and was not disappointed. After a four hour car ride that should have taken about two and a half (LOVE summer construction), we were greeted by a line that wrapped around the corner. It was a Saturday afternoon, so the fact that there was a bit of a wait was not surprising in the least. It moved fairly quickly and we were in the door in about fifteen to twenty minutes. The folks working at this location were fantastic; everyone was so enthusiastic and genuinely happy to be there. The millennial pink boiler suits are such a fantastic bit of branding, but made it especially easy to find a salesperson to help considering the store was fully of people at the time we went.
Glossier Seattle Display Table |
I've been ordering from Glossier for a while now and have tried quite a few of their products, but there is just something so nice about being able to swatch and play with things in person before buying. Almost everything I bought was skincare, so feeling the texture before buying was especially important. My least favorite product that I've purchased from Glossier has been the Priming Moisturizer Rich, and I didn't want to get burned again. This location was not huge, so I appreciated the fact that there were multiple displays with the same products out, making it so that everyone looking at one specific item didn't have to huddle at the same table.

When we were ready to check out, we simply found a salesperson, and they plugged our information into an iPad. Once our orders were submitted, another salesperson came out moments later with our bags. They called out your first name, then asked that you confirm your last name. This was such an efficient system; if someone went in knowing what they wanted they could be in and out in mere minutes.
Glossier Seattle Tote |
I was also pleasantly surprised to find that our purchases came in a free reusable tote. You could say that the theme of the pop-up included a sustainability aspect; the special limited edition item for purchase was a Nalgene x Glossier water bottle. I've really been focusing on ways to reduce waste, so it was great to see that these bags (which are so cute, who wouldn't reuse) were given rather than the usual plastic ones.

If you have the chance to visit the Seattle store, or a different one, I think it's a fantastic, immersive experience. When you walk in the door, you are transported to a different world- one of efficiency and aesthetic galore.

Glossier Haul |
Since the pop-up consisted of products that are always available online, I took the opportunity to swatch some new products that I hadn't tried before (with the exception of the perfume). I found this was especially nice with the skincare. Glossier brings a lot of mixed reviews, but I appreciate that the products are pretty reasonably priced so that it isn't a major loss if something doesn't work out.

Glossier Bubblewrap- $26 |
Glossier Bubblewrap Texture
|
The product that I was most excited to check out in person was Bubblewrap. It is fairly new to the Glossier lineup, and is marked as a cream that you can use on your eyes as well as your lips. The texture is lightweight and cooling, and it sinks into the skin quickly. After trying it on both my eyes and lips, I have decided that I do not like it as a lip product, but it makes a decent eye cream. On the lips, I don't feel like it adds any moisture; it actually almost feels drying to me. On the eyes however, it is pretty pleasant. It applies easily and does a decent job of moisturizing. It isn't the most hydrating eye cream that I have ever used, but isn't too far behind. I apply it at night time and when I apply concealer under my eyes in the morning they are still hydrated enough that they don't get crepey. It's likely that I will repurchase this as a basic eye cream.

Glossier Super Glow Vitamin C + Magnesium Serum- $28 |
Glossier Super Glow Serum Texture
|
Another skincare product I have been dying to try is the Super Glow Serum. Vitamin C is a very essential and very pricey skincare item. I had never been interested in the Glossier serums in the past, due to the extremely small .5 ounce size. Once they announced that they were relaunching the serums in larger 1 ounce sizes, my curiosity was piqued. This seems to be doing the job just fine. The smell is interesting- it's very yeast-y and reminds me of bread, but it's not bothersome, just not what I'm used to. The texture is nice- not sticky and sinks into the skin nicely. I've said this before, but Vitamin C isn't a product that will really show instantaneous results, but overtime it helps to even out skin tone and promote radiance. Since I've starting using this in place of my usual Vitamin C, my skin has kept a nice glow and even tone (as much as I can expect since my cheeks tend to be a bit red most of the time). It seems like it's doing it's job well, and for the price that is quite exciting.

Glossier Invisible Shield- $25 |
Glossier Invisible Shield Sunscreen
|
One of the most important things you can do for your skin is to stay covered in sunscreen. I usually opt for a mineral sunscreen, but am open to using a chemical sunscreen on days I'm not wearing makeup. I'd heard good things about Invisible Shield, so summer seemed like the perfect time to try it. The texture on this one is really nice. It's a lightweight gel that quite frankly is reminiscent of semen, but semen that isn't sticky and actually sinks into the skin quickly. It wears well under makeup and has a pleasant, light citrusy smell. I foresee this being a poolside favorite. So far it seems to be doing a good job at protecting my face, but the true test is yet to come in the form of a full day outdoors.

Glossier You eau de parfume- $60 |
I've had samples of Glossier You in the past and have always really enjoyed it. It's a scent that is easy to throw on with anything without having to think about it too much- whether I'm heading to work, grocery shopping in my sweats (yes I spray fragrance for that), or in a sexy billowy dress, this is something that would fit the bill perfectly. At first, I really wasn't into the packaging but the bottle has grown on me. I didn't really like the loud red cap at first, because perfume tray aesthetic is a thing for me. The more I looked at it though the more I liked it. The way the glass fades from an opaque pink to a clear bottom is lovely, and the thumb imprint is a genius detail. This scent reminds me a lot of Lanvin Eclat D'Arpege, but not 100% the same. Something about it makes it unique and stand on its own legs. It lasts a decent length of time as well. I can usually still notice it a few hours after application, and for the price I'm not mad at that.
Featuring Amber and her glorious eyebrow |
Getting to finally visit a Glossier brick and mortar store was well worth the wait. This is a brand is so intentional with their branding that it is hard not to respect the attention to detail. There are a lot of mixed feelings on Glossier products, but I personally like a majority of what I have tried from them. Their core demographic is a person who likes to look put together but with minimal effort, and I really think their products are perfect for that vibe. If you are going in looking for full coverage and a ton of pigment, you'll want to pass.
