Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint Review

As far as trying new makeup goes, I'm not a huge base product person. I generally find something that I like and stick with it, or just end up skipping a base altogether and spot concealing. Something about this Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint was calling to me though, and I had to try it. The name implies that the product is light and hydrating, which are two big ups in my book. When my local Nordstrom had it in stock in my color for once, I had to pick it up. Was it my new love or would it just lead me to heartbreak?

This tint- and it is a tint, it is not a foundation that offers real coverage- is unique in that it is made up of pigment suspended in a watery concoction. This has probably been done before, but it was very different than any other base product that I have tried. It seemed like it could very well be gimmicky, but from the first time I tried applying the product to the back of my hand and swatching it I could tell it would be something I would be into. It really doesn't offer much coverage, but it has a way of adding the loveliest sheen and blurred effect to the skin. After applying it to my face, I was pleased to see this same beautiful blurred result.

One Pump of Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint

Not only does this look beautiful on the skin, but it feels amazing. Obviously with a name like water-fresh, it is implied that the product should be hydrating, and it definitely is. It just feels so soothing and cooling. I have never used a base product that feels so nice on the skin. Ideally, I wouldn't want to feel my makeup, but in this case it is a welcomed sensation. It only lasts for a few minutes post-application, and after that it feels like I have nothing on.

Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint Six Hours After Application

Unfortunately for my wallet, I really like this product. I rarely make a purchase without researching a product thoroughly these days, and everyone was suggesting that the best way to apply this tint is to pump it on the back of your hand, then use the included brush to dab the product and break apart the pigment droplets, and apply to the face. I feel like this wasted too much product, and I've instead starting applying by dispensing a drop directly to the brush, then dabbing the product on my face, starting in the middle and blending outward. I do really like the little brush that comes with it. It doesn't feel cheap. It's well made, soft, and blends the product out nicely.

This is where things go downhill. The only issue that I have is that I feel like I am going to go through this very quickly, and I have only ever actually finished one base product in my life (my #1 OG love, the Nars Tinted Moisturizer). The first time I tried a full face of this tint properly, I ended up using about five pumps of product, which really seems like a lot. To be fair, I was attempting to build it up to a point that gave me a bit of coverage, which I actually did achieve. I didn't use any concealer and my skin looked even, hydrated and healthy. It covered my redness to a point that I felt very good about. In the future, I won't be able to use it this way or I will absolutely blow through it. The next time I used this tint as my base (pictured above), I used two pumps total, one for each side of my face, then used a bit of concealer on my cheeks where I have that pesky redness that I aim to get rid of. As you can see above, my skin isn't airbrushed perfection, but it is evened out in a nice natural way. You can still see moles on my face and the texture that I have on my cheeks, but this is on par with the type of coverage that I like. I'm really into a natural look where my own skin peeks through.

Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint Brush

In conclusion, I am in love with this product and my heart is broken because of it. It is expensive and I suspect the price is in large part thanks to the brush that comes with it. I would love to see Chanel come out with a version of this that comes sans brush, not only to make it a bit cheaper but to reduce waste for those who really don't need multiples of this brush. I'm also a bit angry with myself for trying this, because now I am in a Chanel base rabbit hole and plan on trying the Chanel Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Moisturizing Tint next. From what I'm seeing, it looks like it offers a touch more coverage, and is supposed to be very lightweight as well. The fact that it contains SPF as well is just icing on the cake. I'm curious to see how these two products stack up against each other and what my preference will be.
